MONKS IN ORANGE
Monks of the Theravada tradition of Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Thailand wear plain saffron or ochre robes. This reddish-yellow (orange) colour is called kasaya or kasava in Pali sources and kashaya in Sanskrit sources. These monks wear these simple robes in emulation of the Buddha's humble garb and to represent their own detachment from the physical world in their pursuit of enlightenment.

HINDUISM
Orange in general represents Hinduism. Hindu swamis traditionally wear orange robes. The significance of orange as the colour for Hindu swamis is commonly thought to be connected to the idea that orange symbolises fire. Renunciates' fiery ochre robes display outwardly the inner transformation that is happening - the burning of ego, their former selves, and their personal wants.
ORANGE PEOPLE
I remember in the early 80's, whilst working as a check-out-chick at Harris Farm Markets, we used to see whole families dressed in orange coming in to load up trolleys full of fruit and veg. We called them the Orange People. They were in fact a part of a movement inspired by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh – or Oshoites. This picture is taken at the compound in Oregon
