I have always been attracted to the color purple. I would go so far as to say it is one of my favorite colors. And turquiose.

Lately though, it has been jumping out at me in a big way. Maybe there is a message...maybe not. Here are some pictures I found and some interesting information along the way.

Purple was a symbol of power, and, above all, wealth. An ounce of good purple dye would cost many times more than a pound of gold. The Phoenicians had long ago given up their secret of how to make "Tryian Purple", but that didn't lower the cost: it still took more than ten thousand Murex mollusks to make one raw wool toga into a purple "toga picta". Someone had to know where the right varieties of Murex were found and had to dredge the spiny shellfish from the sea, and then they had beat and break them with iron bars -- also dangerous work in the days before safety goggles. Then, after the slimy mess sat in the sun for several hours to let the color mature, someone had to wade into the now stinking mess to sop up the ooze and then dry it out.

The ancient world had much to thank Tyre for. The Greek attributed the
introduction of the alphabet to their country Cadmus, the son of a Tyrian king.
The name of the continent if said to come from Europa, the sister of Cadmus.
But it was Tyre's purple-dyed textiles, worn throughout the ancient world as a
mark of royal rank, that brought fame and fortune to the city. One gram of pure
purple dye was worth ten or twenty grams of gold, so it is not surprising that some of
the beautiful sarcophagi of the necropolis belonged to wealthy purple dye
manufactures of Tyre.
The ancient Tyrians extracted the dye from the Murex, a marine snail that still lives
along Tyre's shores deep among the rocks and sunken archeological remains. Dye
extraction is no longer a viable commercial venture, but scientists have documented
the process for historical purposes.

The color red can represent LOVE, ANGER, WARNING or DEATH. Red is a "strong" color, used for intense emotions and concepts. It can symbolize death because red is the color of blood. This is one of the most beautiful, powerful movies I've ever seen. This video focuses on the beauty and happy moments of this epic film. The song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was a frequent melody throughout the movie. The Song “Somewhere over the Rainbow”
